International project

Knowledge Forum is a computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) platform in which knowledge advancement is facilitated with collaborative effort amongst mainly students. It was invented by The University of Tornoto, Canada. Schools of over 20 countries are now using Knowledge Forum as a learning platform for their students to inquire knowledge collaboratively.

In Hong Kong, it is a learning innovation with the support of Centre for Information Technology in Education, The University of Hong Kong.

Knowledge Forum (KF) 2006-07

Phase 1: Dec 2006 – March 2007 HKUGA Primary School

Knowledge Building (KB) among 6A students on “How well does technology solve the problems of (energy crisis/ ageing/ overpopulation/ global warming/ animal extinction) ?” at their own interest. Group presentation and individual essay were assessed and peer assessment was conducted.

Phase 2: April – June 2007 HKUGA Primary School and international collaboration

HKUGA’s 6B and 6C students (Hong Kong) and Ceip Pau Romeva’s students (Barcelona, Spain) critically reviewed and summarized 6A’s database. An invention/ improvement of current technology is made afterwards.
HKUGA Primary School students were given an opportunity to construct knowledge with the students of Pau Romeva, a primary school in Barcelona, Spain.
On-line KB and video conferences for sharing are conducted. During the 11 weeks, students and their teacher (Patrick Lam) meet once a week for an hour. It is also known as “KB Talk” (KB stands for knowledge building). The content can also be obtained below. A video conference for students’ exchange was also organised.
